Twin Registry Musts

Making a baby registry is overwhelming enough but when you find out you’re having two, it suddenly feels like you need to double everything. As a twin mom, I quickly learned what was worth having two of, what we could share, and what ended up collecting dust in a closet. If you’re staring at your registry wondering where to even begin, here’s my list of twin mom registry musts, the items that truly make life with two newborns easier.

I will talk about your musts than share what we used/our favorites.

🛒 What You’ll Need

1. Double Stroller (That Fits Your Life)

A stroller is one of the biggest investments you’ll make, and for twins, it’s essential. Look for one that fits through standard doorways, can grow with your babies, and works with your car seats if possible. Side-by-side vs. tandem is a personal preference, but trust me, you’ll use this daily.

2. Two Infant Car Seats

This one’s obvious, but it’s worth mentioning: safety first. You’ll need two car seats, and ideally ones that are lightweight enough to carry at the same time (because yes, you’ll try). If you and your partner both have a car, I recommend two sets - yes, that means four carseats. The idea of transferring carseats was a non-starter for me, so four was essential. When they were newborns, we had the Uppa Baby Twin Travel system, and purchase two extra bases. We found ours on Facebook marketplace, but they are available in store too.

3. A Great Baby Carrier (or Two)

Sometimes it feels like all you do is hold babies. A comfortable baby carrier is life-changing, and many twin moms keep two so both parents can wear a baby. There are even twin-specific carriers, which can be a lifesaver for solo outings, but if I needed to, I did one in the front and one in the back (both single carriers)

4. One (Maybe Two) Swings or Bouncers

Do you need two of everything? Not always. Babies are individuals, one might love the swing while the other prefers a bouncer. Start with one of each if space allows, and see which becomes the favorite.

5. Double the Sleep Essentials

Two cribs, two mattresses, and twice the sheets - t’s unavoidable. But don’t go overboard on fancy bedding; simple, safe sleep setups are best.

6. Feeding Support

Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, formula feeding, or a mix of all three, twins make feeding a full-time job. A twin nursing pillow, lots of bottles, and a good breast pump (if you’re pumping) are essentials. Bonus tip: get a bottle cleaner, sterilizer and dryer in one. e

7. Plenty of Diapers & Wipes

It’s not glamorous, but it’s practical. You’ll go through diapers and wipes faster than you think, so add them to your registry in bulk. Friends and family love gifting the “essentials,” and it saves you countless midnight Target runs. And the Ubbi diaper pail can is the best! It uses normal trash bags (we use Kirkland garbage bags from Costco), and it is still used 5+ years later (but no longer for diapers). It is that good.

8. Baby Monitor with Two Cameras

When you finally get them to nap at the same time, you’ll want eyes everywhere. A monitor with dual cameras gives you peace of mind and saves you from the constant tiptoe-checking. We opted to use Nest cameras, the same cameras we have at our house for security. They were able to be viewed on our phone when we were not home, and anyone at our house (i.e. nanny/babysitter), could access it via Google Nest Hubs.

8. High Chairs

You won't need these for the first ~6 months, but you will definitely need two of them.

💡 What You Don’t Need Two Of

  • Diaper bag: One good, roomy bag is plenty. Unless you are flying on an airplane, then you need two.

  • Every gadget on the market – Twins don’t mean you need double the gear. Start simple, add more if needed.

Now, let's talk about my favorites:

Pregnancy & Beyond

I was surprised to learn how many items I actually used while I was pregnant, even though they are meant for postpartum:

  • Nursing bras - loved these and would recommend buying them while pregnant when your normal bra is no longer comfortable (size up and you should be set), I spent about 12 months after birth in these (because I exclusively pumped for the twins because we couldn't get them to latch and these are the most comfortable and functional pump bras - not super flattering, but they work and that is what mattered), but I wish I bought nursing bras when I was pregnant because I know how uncomfortable normal bras become.

    • Pump Bra - I would also get one of these for pumping early on.

  • Maternity gym pants - this is my favorite regular gym pants and the maternity ones are fabulous! The price is right, and of all the pairs I had (including super expensive ones from my neighbor) these are THE best! I also taught spin and HIIT classes all the way through my twin pregnancy.

  • Pajamas - I wish I had these when I was pregnant - I lived in them after birth.  The expandable waistband is great! Also available in long sleeve and night gown styles.

  • Classes/Learnings - here are a few classes/groups we took specifically for multiples:

    • Twin Love Concierge - Hosted an AMAZING class for parents of multiples (covered everything - but tailored to you)

    • Daddy Boot Camp - my husband swears by this one!

    • Guide for Dad's to Be - my husband read this cover to cover, said it helped with the first few months and helped him feel more confident

  • Facebook Groups:

Snacks - EAT ALL THE THINGS! I am almost positive I had a slice of pizza 5 days a week in addition to my lunch for at least 7 months....and I regret none of it.  By14 months postpartum I weighed less than I did before getting pregnant.  Don't sweat the extra calories....you are building tiny humans!  The doctor will give you a track of how much weight to gain as you go...just follow that and you will be good...and again - you are building tiny humans AND need to fuel yourself!

Products for Multiples - all of them are worth every penny:

  • Table for Two - an amazing twin feeding system that can be propped up anywhere.  We used it multiple times per day for the first 10 months and it was worth every penny.  It allows one person to feed both babies (with a convenient arm rest for the feeder), and can go on a table, the floor, countertop, etc.  The cushions are washable and we even have the feeding table for snacks as they get bigger (don't buy the feeding trays - not worth it).

  • Twin-Z Pillow - another amazing twin feeding apparatus Ideal for tandem nursing, also just great for bottle feeding or keeping both babies secured.  Definitely not a replacement for the Table for Two.  We kept this upstairs and the table for two downstairs.  The twins still love to cuddle up in it.  Cover is machine washable. We also had a solo feeding pillow, because tandem nursing was not in the cards for me...and it still required someone to pass me the babies.

  • Baby Breeza Formula Pro - I had the best of intentions, but was never able to make enough breastmilk for two and I am so glad we had this.  Its a Keurig for formula.  It does all the math and measuring and heats the bottle to the perfect size and temperature in seconds.  If you are doing formula, you need this.

  • Pump - I ended up pumping for my girls, which was a big time saver.  I loved by Spectra S1 pump it is battery powered so you can move around, and wearable Elvies (though I never got even close to the same amount of milk out when I used these). I would also get the Spectra S9, it just tucks right into your pants.  You will want extras of all pump parts, but wait until the babies are born to figure out the proper sizing.  If you end up EPing (exclusively pumping) I can share WAY MORE here.

  • Hands-Free Pumping Bra - I tried a million and this one was the only one I could wear all day and provided easy access to pump/nurse.

  • Sterilizer and Dryer - I wish we had this...we just had a sterilizer, but everything has to be out on the counter to dry afterwards.  This one is supposed to be great. You still have to hand wash the bottles, but that is quick! There are three on the market that wash, dry, and sterilize [Baby Brezza, MomCozy, and Papablic]. While we are talking about bottles, we loved the Amazon bottle brushes and the Dapple Baby Bottle Soap (also great for wine glasses)

  • Ubbi diaper pail  - I mentioned this about, but we shopped around and this is totally the best one.  No smell issues. It uses normal trash bags (we use Kirkland) and that will save you $$$$

Fortunately, there are not a ton of strollers for multiples on the market (its overwhelming how many singles there are!!)  We went with the Uppa Baby twin travel system (bassinet + stroller + carseat) and were really happy with it. Strolleria has the best prices around, and no tax/shipping.

Awesome toys:

  • Activity center - LOVE LOVE LOVE this, it's the "new" type of walker and converts into a table as they get bigger. Good from 6 months on...my girls still use it (now as a table)

  • Activity gym - we had an oversized activity gym that has been discontinued, but we also had a second smaller one. I love everything from Lovevery, and they have an activity gym and we had one similar to this colorful Baby Einstein activity gym

  • Baby Bouncers - loved these (but their lifetime is short lived) and I would recommend purchasing in grey for easier resale (regardless of gender)

Also THE SNOO!  We purchased two when they were on sale (which is rare, but you can catch a good 30% off when they hit) and resold them for $700 / $750 each after paying just $850!  Was it worth the money? I don't have any comparison, but I am sure we got extra hours here and there because of it. Both girls were sleeping through the night by 2.5 months and the transition out was easy with the magic merlin (another must). We used on Snoo on "wean mode" which also helped with the crib transition.

👩‍👧‍👧 Final Thoughts from a Twin Mom

The truth is, no registry can fully prepare you for the wild ride of raising twins. Some days will feel like pure survival mode, and others will feel like the sweetest gift you’ve ever been given. Having the right gear helps—but the best thing you can have is support, flexibility, and a sense of humor.

Build your registry with the essentials, skip the fluff, and know that no matter how prepared (or unprepared) you feel, you’re already the perfect mom for your twins. 💛
